Understanding CRPS

Learning Objectives
Describe the clinical explanation of CRPS, namely prolonged pain & inflammation, which occurs following an injury or medical event, trauma etc. As well as discerning acute and chronic forms and potential disabling severity, including potentially affected areas of the body, and its changing combinations of spontaneous pain.
Identify the types of CRPS: Type 1 (RSD), Type 2 (Causalgia) and its prevalence in the general population and in the Work Comp arena: i.e. age, & the relationship between injury severity and potential RTW protocols as well as common symptoms such as Allodynia, Hyperalgesia and skin changes.
Discuss the 3 Stages of CRPS, Acute, Dystrophic & Atrophic as well as mechanism of CRPS, diagnostic criteria, not only clinical signs & symptoms, and protocols relevant to both conservative and interventional pain management and probable outcome expectations and work accommodations as indicated
