Learning Objectives
This session will provide an update on recent developments in the field of pain management. Health care professionals will discuss varying strategies, concepts, and treatments to be utilized when encountering patients experiencing long-term pain. Discussion will touch on newer treatment strategies including their reliability and timeliness as they relate to treating injured workers.
This session will review the complicated issues which may arise in the progression of an occupational injury claim. Legal experts will lay the groundwork for what evidence or lack thereof is expected to eventually prove or disprove an occupational injury claim.
This session will address the complex legal cases where there is a work injury claim as well as a personal injury claim which arise from the same incident. Legal experts will discuss recent developments which may, eventually, alter the way these cases are decided.
Recently many employers have become more open to the idea of allowing their employees to do their jobs from home. Remote work has become part of the new normal. This session will dive into the issues which have arisen from these working arrangements as they relate to workers compensation claims.

This break-out session will provide a general overview of best practices for non-attorney attendees while handling a workers compensation injury/claim. Topics will include the report of injury, administration of medical care and the engagement of an expert witness.
This session will feature a presentation from an orthopedic surgeon who will address the diagnosis and treatment of claimants with hand or elbow injuries, and how to best return them to work. Discussion will include treatment options, including surgical and non-surgical, diagnostic testing and rehab options.
This break-out session will provide insights from the Rhode Island Chief Disciplinary Counsel on ethical issues arising in attorney practice and litigation.
This break-out session will provide an overview of the workers compensation system in the State of Rhode Island. Presenters will examine a claim from first report of injury right through the trial process, while discussing best practices and pitfalls to avoid while managing a claim. Focus will be placed on managing claims as they specifically relate to Rhode Island claims.
