Learning Objectives
After completing the activity, participants should be able to describe how coughing, the diaphragm, and the mucociliary elevator work to clear secretions in the lungs to prevent infection, inflammation, and airway obstruction for individuals without impairment.
After completing the activity, participants should be able to differentiate between high-frequency chest wall oscillation (vest) and mechanical in-exsufflation (cough assist) to clear secretions in individuals with impairment
After completing the activity, participants should be able to identify patients, based on their diagnosis, that will benefit from either high-frequency chest wall oscillation (vest) and mechanical in-exsufflation (cough assist)
After completing the activity, participants should be able to coordinate with the MD to develop a care plan to obtain the appropriate airway clearance device needed in the home to prevent exacerbation, infection, and hospital readmits
