Learning Objectives
1.Incorporate new knowledge about current trends, benefits, and risks of islet cell transplantation for type 1 diabetes into the development of optimal treatment plans for potential patients.
2.Adopt an approach to the evaluation of candidates for simultaneous pancreas kidney (SPK) transplant that allows for careful scrutiny of potential risks and complications in each potential recipient and incorporates the expertise of multidisciplinary team members.
3.Utilize new knowledge regarding advances in islet cell transplantation to guide further investigation into potential techniques and patient-monitoring approaches that may demonstrate improved outcomes in select patients in my practice.
4.Maintain or create new communications with other health care professionals to establish a multidisciplinary team of specialists and support team members to facilitate transplant success and provide quality health care.
