Learning Objectives
: Identify the anatomy of the cervical spine including each vertebrae function and exact location, as well as evaluation indicators for each as it directly relates to pain, i.e., C2-jaw, C3-headaches, C4-neck, C5-shoulder etc. Also identify indicators of progressive cervical disc and facet degeneration including symptoms of radiculopathy and myelopathy.
Describe the specific types of diagnostic/imaging protocols utilized in diagnosis of cervical disorders, namely x-rays, MRI and CT, as well as the subsequent treatments: conservative and surgical, as indicated by imaging results. Including NSAIDS, traction, & short term narcotics.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Anterior Cervical Discectomy & Fusion and Posterior Cervical Fusion Procedures: Indicators, symptoms, surgical approach and techniques, as well as potential complications and recommended and anticipated RTW protocols and timeframes.
