Did you know that pearls are only created when an oyster becomes irritated?

When I first embarked on the adventure of being CCMC’s 2019 New World Symposium Taskforce Chair, I happened to see a quote that said "No grit, no pearl." For some reason, this quote continued to resonate with me, so I decided to do a little digging into how pearls are formed.

What stood out to me most is the fact that a pearl is only created when an oyster becomes irritated. The oyster uses something adverse and irritating to create an item of unique value.

As healthcare professionals, we deal with challenges in the workplace every day. Through these challenges, we develop into professionals that offer unique and immense value to our industry, much like the oyster produces a pearl.

Although these challenges help develop us into the valuable professionals we are today, it is important to remember that even pearls have to be polished, otherwise, they lose their luster. That is the purpose of CCMC's New World Symposium; to help you increase your value and enhance your ability to effectively coordinate care according to the Quadruple Aim.

I urge you to take 2.5 days at the beginning of this new year and dedicate time to your professional development. Make 2019 the year that you are intentional about invigorating your career. Whether your career goals are to Get Certified, Stay Certified or Develop Others, CCMC and the New World Symposium are here to support you.

There is still time to register and join us in National Harbor, MD, February 28 - March 2. You won’t want to miss our opening plenary speaker, Surgeon General of the United States, Vice Admiral Jerome Adams, M.D., MPH! One-day and group registrations are also available - find the option that works best for you!
