Learning Objectives
To help case managers to better describe the legal changes and the implications of the changes in the laws (including Medicare laws and Powers of Attorney laws)
Educate case managers so they will be comfortable describing legal documents including Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy, Revocable Trusts, Irrevocable Trusts, Living wills, etc.
To provide case managers with more knowledge about the legal and financial concerns patients and family members have so case managers can identify and address these issues in a more informed manner
Provide case managers with a basic understanding of Community Medicaid and Long Term care (nursing home) Medicaid and demonstrate common myths about Medicaid planning and applications
Demonstrate the difference between pre-planning, crisis planning and non-planning and what patients/clients can expect with each scenario. Learning will come from real life case studies.
Discuss basic legal terminology of elder law and estate planning, making the case managers more of an asset to the patients/clients they interact with as they will be more comfortable with these legal terms.
