ABOUT THE WEBINAR

Alzheimer's disease and related dementias are not just a major health issue for the patient. Because dementia involves relentless cognitive deterioration, family caregivers have to manage changing demands and unexpected problematic behaviors. Caregivers often sacrifice their own needs and well-being to provide care for their loved one. Case managers must help families make difficult decisions across every stage of this disease. Often these decisions must balance the needs of the patient and the caregiver. This webinar will explore the common ethical issues that case managers face when treating the family suffering from dementia.

After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common ethical challenges that arise for caregivers of people with dementia.
  • Describe ethically-reasoned approaches for handling decisions that most commonly arise among family members who are caring for a loved one with dementia.
  • Evaluate a case that can be experienced as ethically troubling by the case manager.
