CERTIFICATION

The CCM® exam is currently administered 3 times per year, in April, August and December. Starting March 1, The Commission updated the eligibility criteria for taking the CCM exam in two key areas: qualifications and employment experience.

The qualifications now include individuals who have a four-year degree in a health or human services area as eligible to apply1.   The individuals must have completed supervised field experience in case management, health, or behavioral health as part of the degree requirements as well. This approach reflects many of the changes happening in health care today.

Experience must focus primarily on case management practice. The revised criteria spell out that applicants for the exam must perform the core components of case management. Within each core component, case managers must perform all the essential activities with direct client. Services must be provided across the care continuum, and the case manager must be responsible for interacting with others in the system. This experience must be achieved within the past five years.

Please download and read the Certification Guide for complete eligibility requirements and information on how to apply for the CCM exam.

RENEWAL

CCM certification is valid for 5 years. Renewal of the CCM credential is currently processed 2 times per year, in May and November.

For complete information on the renewal process, including how to upload CEs to your online transcript and changes with post-approval fees, please download and read the Renewal Guide.

Renewal applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. You can expect to be notified via email and via My CCM Dashboard when your renewal has processed, please check your My CCM Dashboard account often for updates. Renewal certificates are mailed approximately 1 month after the renewal deadline.

Visit My CCM Dashboard to log into your account, upload CEs, process your renewal or finish an incomplete renewal during open renewal windows. My CCM Dashboard account will show all of the courses that you uploaded from the old system that transferred over to the new system.

Please note this important update regarding post-approval and University fees:

  • To better reflect industry norms, the price structure for post-approved and University courses has changed to $15 per course. This fee will apply to all post-approved courses uploaded into the new system. You will be invoiced for post-approval fees as you upload them into the system. Disabling the course does not remove it from your transcript, nor will it remove an invoice.
  • Any post-approved or University courses you previously uploaded into your transcript before the data transition has carried over into the new system, and will be assessed fees based on the previous fee structure, $15 per course up to $50 per calendar year. You will be invoiced for old post-approval fees separately after you submit for your renewal.
