CCMC launches 2017-2018 CMLearning Network webinar series with framework for family and patient engagement
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., Aug. 31, 2017— Engaging patients and their family as collaborators in their care is a cornerstone of the national strategy for delivering health care that results in better care, better health and lower costs. But, by and large, it continues to be an aspirational aim rather than business as usual.
Creating a framework for consistent, sustainable patient- and family-engaged care is the focus of the first in the upcoming CMLearning Network® webinar series hosted by the Commission for Case Manager Certification®. The CMLearning Network, a resource center for today’s case manager, also provides issue briefs and face-to-face, online and on-demand learning for professional and board-certified case managers.
The Sept. 27 webinar, “Enriching outcomes through patient engagement: Tools to use,” is presented by Sara Guastello, director of knowledge management for Planetree, a non-profit health care organization that focuses on care delivery transformation. Guastello will examine the major connections between patient and family engagement in care co-design to improve health and health care outcomes. In addition, she’ll share the essential practices organizations need to effectively leverage the patient’s voice to create a culture of patient and family engagement.
“This fall, we appropriately bring attention to the patient at the center of care as we launch our free webinar series. In September, we’ll focus on patient- and familycentered engagement, and in November we’ll dive into ethics and the case manager’s role as an advocate for clients” said Commission CEO MaryBeth Kurland, CAE. “Sara is co-author of the seminal discussion paper from the National Academy of Medicine on patient and family engaged care, and brings case managers proven tools and strategic counsel on implementation across all care settings.”
The Commission hosts its CMLearning Network webinar series to educate and raise awareness of current issues and solutions for case managers and others involved in coordinated, inter-disciplinary care. These high-demand webinars are limited to the 2 first 500 professional case managers who sign up to learn about topics such as care coordination, care transitions and changes that affect case managers.
From September 2017 through May 2018, the Commission will host five webinars that support professional development. The first, featuring Guastello, is set for Sept. 27, 2017, from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern. It’s free to participants, although board-certified case managers may register to earn continuing education credit for a small fee.
Other topics in the 2017-2018 series include ethical principles, new payment models, team communication and regulatory changes that affect case managers.
