Biography

Sandra Zawalski was the 2015.2016 Chair of the Commission for Case Manager Certification. Ms. Sandra Zawalski is a Clinical Educator with MCG and an Independent Case Management Consultant who specializes in assessing, developing and implementing case management programs and case management training for providers and payers. In addition to her three years of service on the Commission, she has served on the executive committee of the Cleveland chapter of the Case Management Society of America and on the board for the Brain Injury Foundation for the Cleveland Chapter. She has also served on the education committee for the Northeast Ohio Case Management Network and is a former Boy Scout leader and is active in her local Blue Star Mother’s chapter.  Ms. Zawalski has published numerous articles on case management and presented at local, state and national seminars. She holds a Master’s degree in nursing and in addition to being a certified case manager is also a certified rehabilitation nurse, a Medicare Set Aside Consultant and a member of the American Board of Disability Analysts.

Personal Statement

As a member of the first class to take the Commission’s CCM examination, Sandra Zawalski has had the opportunity to watch the field of case management grow.  What started out as an unknown profession is now common verbiage in healthcare.  The independence in practice that case managers are now experience allows them to work with patient’s to enhance their healthcare and to educate them to become good healthcare consumers.

“I marvel at how far this profession has evolved and yet when I look to the future realize just how much more work is needed”.  Case management remains an untapped service which can assist those in need of healthcare to obtain what is needed.  Wellness programs can assist individuals with remaining well and case managers should be at the for-front of this push.  Educating the public about case managers and healthcare could contribute to increased health knowledge and a healthier society.”
